English for Young Learners in Hong Kong | Ages 3–12

Berlitz Hong Kong offers dedicated English courses for young learners aged 3 to 12, using two official National Geographic Learning series: Look and See for pre-primary children aged 3 to 5, and Look for primary-age children aged 5 to 12. Both programmes are taught by certified, experienced English instructors using the immersive Berlitz Method — where lessons are conducted entirely in English from the very first session, creating genuine language immersion in a safe, structured, and age-appropriate environment.
Look and See introduces very young learners to English through play, songs, games, and hands-on projects, building phonemic awareness, early vocabulary, and a love of learning. Look takes children through seven progressive levels from true beginner to pre-intermediate, developing all four English skills — reading, writing, listening, and speaking — alongside grammar, vocabulary, and critical thinking.

Is My Child the Right Age to Start English Lessons?

This is the question almost every parent asks. The honest answer: it depends less on age than on readiness — and most children are ready earlier than their parents expect.

What 'ready' actually looks like

A child doesn't need to know any English before starting. They simply need to be able to sit for short periods, respond to their name, and show interest in pictures, songs, or stories. If your child enjoys being read to or asks questions about the world — they are ready.

Starting early is an advantage, not a pressure

Children who are exposed to a second language before age 7 develop more natural pronunciation and stronger language intuition. Berlitz young learners lessons are designed to take advantage of this window — through play, music, and real-world exploration, not grammar drills.

What if my child is shy or anxious?

Berlitz instructors who work with young learners are trained in child-appropriate engagement — they know how to draw out a quiet child gradually, without pressure. Private and semi-private formats are available for children who need more one-to-one attention before joining a group.

The K3 to P1 transition — why it matters

Primary 1 in Hong Kong is a significant step up in English demand. Children who arrive with structured English input — vocabulary, phonemic awareness, and listening skills — adapt more quickly and perform more confidently from day one.

Supporting international school students

The NGL Look series is used by international schools worldwide — the skills and vocabulary your child builds at Berlitz directly mirror what their school teachers expect.

Progress tracking at every level

Berlitz instructors track progress against the Look curriculum after every lesson. Parents receive regular updates on development, strengths, and areas for practice.
